Day 51 – Power Tools
Today, as I rip out our old countertops in the kitchen, I’m especially grateful for power tools. In this particular case, handheld cordless power tools.
The ones I use are the Ryobi 18V+one version. I own just about every tool in the series including cordless drills, caulking gun, jigsaw, circular saw, flashlights, angle grinder, laminate trimmer, planer, vacuum, a 6 port charger, stapler, sanders, reciprocating saw and chain saw.
Just about every day I use one of these particular tools for one thing or another, even if it’s just the flashlights. In looking up the link I noticed a couple of them that I don’t have (the leaf blower for instance, which is great for blowing dust out of my workshop and off the porch). I’m spoiled, so I’ll probably have it soon. 🙂
In addition to those cordless tools other power tools that make my life easier are my panel saw, table saw, compound miter saw, belt sander, bench grinder, drill press, power saw, router, compressor, pneumatic rivet gun, nail guns and staplers and a few more.
If I had to use old fashioned hand tools to do the jobs that these tools are designed to make easy it would easily take 5-10 times as long. Probably a lot longer than that.
It’s taken me 47 years to collect a proper workshop – and there are still tools that could help, but for the most part, I’ve got it covered and I’m glad there are people out there developing tools to help me build the things that my unique line of work requires me to build.
It’s taken the better part of a day to get our old countertops out and I just can’t think of anything I’ve been happier about having today than a full set of cordless power tools.
